Project R&R: World Petition to End Chimpanzee Research in the United States

Chimpanzees are humankind's closest genetic relative. An estimated 1,000 chimpanzees are currently held in U.S. laboratories, both government-owned or -supported and private.

The time has come for the United States to make the moral and humane decision to join the community of countries like Belgium, Austria, Japan, Australia, Sweden, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom that have either banned or severely limited the use of chimpanzees and other great apes in research.

We, the undersigned, support the passage of U.S. government legislation to end to the use of chimpanzees, and all great apes, in U.S. research or U.S.-funded chimpanzee research anywhere in the world. We strongly support the immediate release of chimpanzees into permanent sanctuary.
