Your signature and that of other scientists and academic professionals help us build the momentum necessary to end the use of chimpanzees in biomedical research in the U.S. and to provide them with permanent sanctuary. Project R&R will deliver this petition to key U.S. legislators and other policy makers who can help us change laws, release chimpanzees, and retire them to sanctuaries.

Project R&R: Scientists and Academic Professionals Petition to End Chimpanzee Research in the U.S.

Chimpanzees are humankind's closest genetic relative. An estimated 1,000 chimpanzees are currently held in U.S. laboratories, both government-owned or -supported and private.

The time has come for the United States to make the moral, humane, and scientifically advanced decision to join the community of countries like the United Kingdom, Austria, Japan, the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, and Sweden that have banned or limited the use of chimpanzees in research.

We, the undersigned members of the scientific and academic community, support efforts to end the use of chimpanzees for biomedical research and testing in the U.S. and to provide them permanent retirement in sanctuary.
