To: NIH Director Francis Collins, M.D., Ph.D.
Dear Dr. Collins,
I am writing as a supporter of Project R&R: Release and Restitution for Chimpanzees in U.S. Laboratories to urge you to disclose the names and other requested information for each and every federally owned or supported chimpanzees, currently held at all federally owned or supported research facilities.
Individuals like Karen - a 51-year-old chimpanzee we recently met through the undercover investigation of NIRC - who has spent decades in a laboratory. Karen, and all the others, deserve to be known.
The American public cares deeply about chimpanzees in research labs and refuses to allow any of them to remain anonymous and behind bars.
Each of the approximately 1,000 chimpanzees now being used or housed by federally owned or supported labs has an identity and unique story that must not be buried by those who seek instead to treat them like mere research "resources."
Therefore, I lend my name in strong support of Project R&R's goal to end the use of all chimpanzees in all U.S. research and to urge you to respond to Project R&R's duly filed FOIA requests.
Please, release the names, genders, dates of birth, and lab identification numbers of all chimpanzees currently held at all facilities housing federally owned or supported chimpanzees.
The public has a right to know and the chimpanzees have a right to be known.
Sincerely,
Signed by:
